Our projects
In sub-Saharan Africa deaf and disabled people still need to fight for social and educational inclusion!
Emmanual was only 11 years old, when his destiny changed and cerebrospinal meningitis left him deaf. Suddenly his life became a nightmare. His family often misunderstood him. His friends rejected him. And he was excluded from the educational system, due to a lack of specialized schools.
At the age of 13 Emmanual met Arthur. This was a decisive turning point in Emmanuels live. Together, they developed an improvised communication technic, a language of their own, which enabled them to break through the barrier of silence.
Whilst Emmanual’s educational path was still a series of ongoing struggles against prejudice and administrative barriers, he persisted and he became one of the first deaf people to obtain a high school diploma in Benin. He even went on to completing a bachelor's degree in psychology and education sciences from the University of Abomey-Calavi.
The bond between Emmanual and Arthur became the seed for a shared dream: to use school as a battleground to fight the injustices suffered by people with disabilities.
In 2019 they founded Prunelle de Dieu, an NGO dedicated to giving a voice to those who are not heard and dignity to those who are invisible in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Through the project “Allô Sourd: Breaking the Silence”, Prunelle de Dieu aims to support 100 deaf children with a holistic approach combining:
· Access to education (school fees, kits, follow-up)
· Access to health services
· Sign language training for families and communities
· Digital skills development for deaf youth
· Economic empowerment of families
This is not just a project. It is a pathway from exclusion to inclusion.
